OK you guys that is all fine. But current rumblings in the press revolves around an extension of the 3G buildout time-table. We can all come up with our own reasons however I do not see how a reasonable person could possibly think that a handset manufacturer, no matter how large or dominant, was the cause. Nor do I see how a single infrastructure company could do it. The technology companies form committees that decide on standards; the governments grant the licenses; the chipmakers develop the ICs; the manufacturers engineer the products (handsets and infrastructure); the operators buy the licenses, the infrastructure and co-sell the handsets; and the consumer buys the handset and the service because he/she has developed the need/want for it. All of this happens in a slow moving heap of disorderly synchrony that never, I repeat NEVER, matches the timetables cooked up by over-paid and over-sexed marketers! Nobody controls this process. An individual company may make a deadline but if anything occurs at any one point of the organism the entire mass becomes terribly misshapen. Sorry for the over-heated diatribe but the felt we were drifting off onto a tangent. Nokia's current market is GSM and GPRS. Whether we like the technology or not this is the relevant topic for the next bunch of quarters. By the time 3G gets here Nokia may have faltered for reasons having nothing to do with Nokia's relationship with a single chipmaker. JMHO, Terrapin
