Canuck,

If you knew anything about CSCO's automated systems you would know that they arguably have better visibility onto bookings than any public company on earth. The last comment Chambers made was early December - one month into the quarter. Now CSCO is 2+ months into the quarter and Chambers comment - that it was a more challenging quarter - is to be expected given the market conditions. I personally didn't take this as a warning - I took it as meaning it was a more challenging quarter. That's what John said. You're beef is with the investors reaction to the comment - not the comment. If one month into the quarter bookings were "not challenging" why should John suggest that they are. Now 2 months in they have been - and John suggests that they have been. So, I'm still unclear as to the basis for your complaint.

As for the 83 PE.. this is can be argued all ways up and down as we have done many many times on this thread. I take the position that pro-forma PE is more appropriate given the amount of funding going into new market penetration during the past year.. I think the PE is still a healthy 47ish. And this should bear out as CSCO reduces raw material expenses, SG&A, and what I'll call "outside or purchased R&D".
