And let's not forget that the treasury markets also provide the Fed the ability to inject or withdraw liquidity from the monetary system through their repurchase agreements.

If the national debt is paid off, then how will they do this?

Btw, I also believe SS will become "means tested" in future years. That will, if properly implemented, probably reduce many unfunded liabilities that will accumulate.

But that doesn't stop the current ransacking of the SSTF as IOUs are exchanged for incoming excess tax revenues which are being spent on special interest pork barrel projects and additional entitlements. Entitlements, I might add, that will ALSO have to be funded alongside these SS liabilities.

I suggest you all read Martin Gross' works on government waste, fraud, and abuse.. in addition to some of his other perspectives. In fact, he was on the G. Gordon Liddy show today discussing the very issue that we've been shedding light on here, namely the fraud that is SS.
