I think I already posted about a young woman I know whose parents seem to take the point of view that they have a moral obligation to stay in the market because "If it goes down, we all go down."

Joan:

Good comments.

As I noted, I really dislike these rascals. I have had many meetings with investors who have decided to bring along their FAs. In the early days I would endeavour to remain polite, but the total lack of understanding of what is going on in the markets became simply too much, particularly when it was accompanied by arrogance and smugness. These days I just trash them with facts if they become offensive (which occurs with amazing frequency).

I shouldn't generalize as that is an inappropriate perspective, but the fact is that I have met only a few FAs who deserve the title. Most are glorified insurance salesmen.

Best, Earlie
