chic,

IMO - anyone that invests based upon expectations during a particular earnings season is really gambling - not investing. But that's a personal opinion. I just don't think anyone has enough information about a company to make a resonable guess as to how earnings will come in and even more importantly guidance - which is really what earnings is all about.

Second, recession.... Again, a gamble. I think there are a lot of people reading into this slowdown recession. However, let's be realistic, we have slowed from white hot unsustainable GDP growth of 6% to a more sustainable 2-3% growth... and this is slowing.... not recession.

Speculative orgy? Perhaps...... but remember what I've been saying for months now. Valuations are more a factor of investor sentiment than they are underlying companies. If sentiment builds that valuations are in line (or at least more reasonable than the insane valuations we had last year this time) then folks may come into the market. If this happens then all bets on the downside are off. And that is what the indicators I was pointing to early could indicate. I think it bears watching given the strong resistance that we've put in and the creeping up we're getting now. This isn't the big blow-off "bear rally" any more... this is money bleeding into the market so it COULD be a signal. Don't know. But watch 2650 and watch a retrace to not break through 2350. These are important IMO... as is CSCO at $39..

OG
