Yeah, well, er, no offense, but I sort of hope that doesn't come up at my lunch with Barney Frank.

On a somewhat more mordantly humorous note, this bit of contrast showed up on another political figure.

The William Gorham Rice Civil Libertarian of the Year Award: Senator Russell Feingold (for his sponsorship of the Federal Death Penalty Moratorium Act in 2000.) http://www.aclu-wi.org/wi/BR01info.html

A Democrat, Senator Russell D. Feingold of Wisconsin, indicated after a meeting with Mr. Ashcroft today that while he would question the nominee in his confirmation hearing about issues like racial profiling and enforcement of civil rights laws, he was inclined to support him. nytimes.com

Feingold is a little more proximate to me, I've written him on the matter. The Ashcroft confirmation hearings should have some entertainment value, but I somewhat expect him to be confirmed, and that may be all to the good. Maybe it's better to have someone who attracts attention and has a long paper trail than a bland and quiet unknown. It might be good to have and AG who will show the true face of "compassionate conservatism".

Cheers, Dan.
