I believe that more can be done and I don't think that they have 60 years of data where there was an active effort to make inmates employable. There is more to being "employable" than learning how to type, or fix a car or operate machinery.

As I said, I believe that you should have the right to not fund inmate education. This is an area where I am willing to squander my money.

recidivism is horrendous

I know it's not politically feasible, and perhaps I'm glad that it's not, but there's a part of me that would like to reconsider Devil's Island for incorrigibles. I'm a really tolerant person. I always look for the best in people and turn my cheek again and again. But there comes a point where I write 'em off.
