Sorry I didn't answer sooner, I have been gone for a few days. I somehow doubt that the reason for the grainy-ness is the printer, but rather the picture that the print was made from. Check the resolution of the picture on the computer. get one that is at least 1024 x 768 and print a 5x7. You will "viva la difference"

If you have a photoshop usergroup in your area, attend a few of their meetings and ask to see some of their "as good as it gets photos. You will begin to see a whole new world." Also try someplace other than gateway.
