HTech:

I don't think there is anyway INTC can shrug off the triple wamy of HWP, GTW and RMBS. If the retail sales report is worse than expected all of today gains will be gone and then some.

It is to be recalled that hp, thanks to carly, has spent a truck load trying to gain market share in the consumer pc section, not exactly an inspired endeavor, and is pushing its last generation unix stuff with hpux against sun. And gateway when not factoring the heck out of its receivables to the banks upon which it is heavily indebted is busy building those very cost effective Gateway stores. And Rambus, what can I say, its 'years ahead of its time'.

Sooooooooo....... these guys aren't exactly the Kunte Kinte of the New World Order.

:))

Hi Tech Trooper,
<I don't think there is anyway INTC can shrug off the triple wamy of HWP, GTW and RMBS. If the retail sales report is worse than expected all of today gains will be gone and then some. >

During the December time frame everyone's expectation have already been lowered. So the warnings of HP,GTW and RMBS should already have been priced into the stock price. Motorola had lackluster earnings, but since that is what was already expected, the Motorola stock is OK.The analysts are cutting everyone's earning estimates. Earnings estimates for Intel in 2001 are lower than for 2000.

So for the stock to do well, you have to beat these lower estimates. But if you do worse than these estimates, then there is more room to the downside.
