Pe on Nazdaq is still historically high. The fundimentals are not the issue, but the prices are. Qcom,BRCM,RIMM etc are great companies(Ok not RImm) but their stocks are not cheap enough to say the are great values, RCA took years to get back to its 29' high(I think 10 or so). The issue was not RCA's great business model but the price and the markets druken buying orgy gone wrong that kept the price down. As for the action in the market, when a market goes up 6% in a day and individual issues(the most heavily shorted)are up 10-20% there is a huge short covering component. I agree the departure of defencive stocks began already.

If the market is weak, isn't that partly also a function of some spokespersons

I thought it had more to do with CSCO saying it was "challenged", NT adjusting its workforce, HWP saying a sucky economy was playing havoc with their earnings...etc etc etc.

Art,

My brokers (2 from different brokerages) also indicated that today's market rally was mostly due to rotations from old economers to high flyers which took a severe beating from October to December 2000. Qualcomm is not one of those stocks.

Additionally, Q*'s trading volume was relatively light. There seemed to be a lack of serious buying, rather than heavy selling.
