January 11, 2001 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. said Jan. 9 it has developed 512Mb memory modules for
notebook PCs and has already supplied them to major corporate clients, including Compaq Computer Corp. and Dell
Computer Corp.

The 512Mb memory module is double the size of conventional 256Mb products in terms of capacity.

The Korean microchip giant said it plans to obtain a 70 percent share of the global memory module market in 2001. The
market is expected to be valued at US$70 million in 2001 and to expand to US$500 million in 2003, the company said.

Demand is expected to grow sharply as notebook PCs need high-performing modules to accommodate larger storage
capabilities, said an official at Samsung Electronics.

Memory modules for notebook PCs are about 25 percent more expensive that those used for desktop PCs.
