From CES: Carl Yankowski of Palm

cesweb.org

I quote:

"PALM'S EXPANSION SOURCE IS THE SECURE DIGITAL AND MULTIMEDIA CARD FORMAT.
WE MADE THIS CHOICE BECAUSE IT IS AN INDUSTRY STANDARD, WITH MORE THAN 150 MEMBERS
AND BECAUSE OF ITS DESIGN AND ELEGANCE. AT THE SIZE OF A POSTAGE STAMP, IT CAN HOLD
POWERFUL DATA APPLICATIONS AND ALSO PERFORM AS AN I/O DEVICE IN ALL WITHOUT BEING
INTRUSIVE. YOU WILL SEE THESE IN OUR DEVICES IN THE SPRING."

For some reason he forgot to mention flanMMC.

Betty, with all the earnings warnings and disappointments...

...a successful Q4 2000 for SNDK should resonate.

Perhaps with HWP and GTW warning there will be an increasing
recognition of companies who have positioned themselves to
benefit from a mature, installed base of desktop PC's.

Palm had record earnings in Q4 and faces part shortages going forward.
I don't see Dell or Apple or Gateway or Compaq complaining about
component shortages. Oh, wait a second, I take that back.

Compaq can't make their iPaq handheld fast enough.

Anyway, let's hope for a record quarter.

I posted this today on the Palm board...

Betty, I know Palm was thrashed in December despite the earnings report...

...but I am concentrating on top line growth as a surrogate
for the consumer interest in handheld devices.

Palm's total revenues have increased nicely, as have total
unit sales even with Handspring, Microsoft, Psion, and a
bunch of other players in the mix. Early Palm adopters will
hopefully remain loyal and upgrade to more robust devices
that should hit the street this Spring.
