I have the article and will be glad to scan it and email it to anyone supplying their email address. The article states that this week Sun will unveil an enhanced version of its modular StorEdge T3 storage system, which was introduced last summer. The system will store, move, and manage data on servers running HP_UX, IBM's AIX and Microsofts NT. It is a major departure for Sun which has not supported many operating systems other than solaris, (it's version of UNIX). Devon Energy Corp Oklahoma City OK is using Suns System and claims "when we add T3 brick, we double the controllers, the bandwidth and the performance. The StorEdge T3 is available now; a 5.2 terabyte configuration is priced at $600,000. Devon Energies Senior Network Engr. claims that he picked Sun because EMC products were slower and four times more expensive. Sun's modular approach will allow companies to start with 163 Gbytes on a T3 array and add more as needed. Customers will end up with a single system image across the arrays, which makes the system easy to adminster and manage. ============================================================ Sounds like SUNW is finally ready to deliver it's multi-platform stoarge product. IBM is the credible threat to SUNW, however, ow do you move a 5 ton elephant? ...... Very carefully! I mean to say that SUNW may be "hungrier" and have the ability to move more nimbly. IBM also has the business "to lose" more so that SUNW does.
