UMC has cut its foundry price to attract more customers, according to the “Commercial Times.” So far UMC has lowered its memory-related process foundry price from 20% to 25%. The logic IC foundry price seems to be more stable and has dropped less than 10%. However, to keep its capacity utilization above 80% in 1Q01, UMC also decided to cut its logic IC foundry price more than 20% for some large fabless IC companies. ATI and VIA (2388 TT), which have been traditionally loyal clients of TSMC, have put in more orders to UMC.

The ruling and the opposition parties are preparing to respond to the Council of Grand Justices' verdict on the Cabinet's decision to scrap the No. 4 nuclear power plant, expected late Monday, reports the China Times.

Not building the plant is increasingly discounted in the Taiwan stock market. Building the plant may be seen as positive for electronics share, based on perceived ample power supply, in the short-term.
