Perhaps so. Bland's point, really, was that after taking the class he was certainly in a better position to understand and seriously judge what he was hearing in the news media and reading in the papers and print, and decide for himself about it, rather than simply reacting in a uninformed way.

That can only be a good thing, in bland's estimation, and should not be discouraged out of hand.
