They DO put on a good show. My only experience was my friend's Dad's funeral. I was a pall bearer and remember lots of standing and kneeling. Being a pagan of some kind, I just found that part confusing.

I'm in your camp. I think most religious rituals are kinda nutty whether it involves sacrificing animals or pouring stuff on fires. I'm generally not offended by it (I don't approve of animal sacrifice), I just don't think it is relevant to the qualifications for a secular job.

Even if I could ask, I wouldn't ask what brand of incense someone burned on Sunday. If they wrote C++ programs well but only in the presence of burning incense, that might be a problem in the smoke-free workplace. However, if they did it at home, I wouldn't care.

If they professed in their interview that they wrote their best code when they burned incense on Sunday standing naked with a dead cat around their neck, I'd consider that NUTTY. For me it shows, a) a lack of judgement in TELLING me, b) a tendency for irrelevant behavior. Mostly, a) though!!!!) I simply don't want to know and I don't want them telling me. This is true whether they are liberal or conservative, BTW.
