Ariba has their customers by the cajones because of the fast and fat ROI. What they've done is say that they are going to sell three year licenses for a small discount to what they have sold perpetual licenses. All upgrades will be term for perpetual customers.

It doesn't matter how they recognize it. They have boosted their model and they control their market.
