"Reagan's illegal Iran Contra project, and he got caught lying about that!" He did? I don't remember that. Were charges filed? I was real suspicious of his claims that he simply couldn't remember at the time. Now I figure he really wasn't in the loop enought and Bush senior was. But he didn't get stung either. I always felt Ollie North took the rap, but I don't think anything got pinned on Reagan.

Do you remember the phrase: "Read my lips, no new taxes"? Yes. I believe Bush fully intended to follow through on this promise when he said it, and simply didn't muster the support that he hoped to. Dumb thing to say if you can't deliver but far from illegal or even unethical. So, what?

"And, why should he have left office? He did a great job domestically, and a poor job with international affairs, but did nothing worthy of him leaving office." Bush had declared his agenda to strengthen the economic foothold, and foreign affairs during his first term (which happened) and focus on domestic affairs during the second term. I think the country was ready for domestic involvement by the executive department and chose Clinton as the better man for the job. Who knows if Bush was up to the task or not. I didn't think so at the time. After the fact the support for clinton from the inner city clutches is obvious, so they must think he did a good job. I personally think he did more to make himself a Superenabler than a leader of a healthy domestic policy. All the fear talk about what the right wingers will take from us when he is gone is my evidence. Clinton was a bungler in foriegn affairs and basically reaped the benefits of economic conditions that had been laid at his feet. I would like to hear what specific policies he came up with that caused the economic boom of the last decade.

"just before Bush leaves office, he throws our troops into a lawless, unsafe and violent land," Due to civil unrest millions were dying of starvation and the UN had determined that the only hope for them was outside humanitarian intervention.

"with no exit plan," A specific exit plan would have been setting a goal for clinton. I would not do that. I would assume clinton could pick up the ball and make a decision on his own...same with Iraq...but, well...no such luck...everybody dies under clintons watch.

"...and almost no hope of success." The hope, as I understand it was to provide temporary humanitarian relief in a crisis situation, not to cure the world of civil unrest."

"...You like those types of projects?" Indeed I do, when they are placed in the hands of capable, responsible and noble persons...clinton was president.
