I think we just dump the tax exemption for churches. What is the basis for that?

In the case of the churches it would be kind of hard to pay people effected by the killings. In most cases everyone who knew the victems has long been dead. Also the people who ordered and the people who commited the killings are long dead.

so what ? they still can be made responsible for their genocidal tendencies. i am sure a bright esquire could think of a good reason. and it for sure as hell would serve as deterrent for additional cruelty in the name of god

hmmm come to think of it... i know of a case in which one of those Jesus wacko churches were hit by a civil damages suit... i will go and look if there is an URL in this reference....

in addition, churches should pay taxes, i have no desire to subsidize personal beliefs of others.

As far as tobacco companies go I believe in personal responsibility for smokeing. If you want to smoke fine but you shouldn't be able to sue a tabacco company when you don't like the consqeunces.

i agree, however the US attorney's office (or state's --whatever--) did not think so and the result is they are paying. so should the churches.
