As the reactions of some on the thread last night demonstrated, many, perhaps most, people wouldn't get the reference to using Crisco when the oil of choice was not available.

OK. I'm admit to having been among the bewildered. Now I'm bewildered all over again. The Ashcroft thing was about oil. Now you're talking about solid shortening. Once again, I'm missing the connection.

Will we have to go over to the free speech thread for you to explain how we get from oil to hydrogenated shortening? <g>

Pardon me, Ms. Blue, but who brought up the crisco thing here in the first place? Without any context, but as the leadoff of a barrage of posts deriding the other thread?

Perhaps you might review the typical level of "humor" that shows up from your RWET buddies when the topic of Janet Reno comes up, before you get all sanctimonious about Ashcroft.
