You got it. Midwesteran power would be eaten up by transmission charges before it got to SoCal.

I don't know how the power grid works but CA is buying it from other western states. Is the loss (S&H) over so many miles too high to make it feasible?

Also wonder how power is stored after it's generated. I can't imagine batteries massive enough. They don't have big masses of whatever heated up do they? Ya can't pump the water back up or reconstitute the coil, oil or gas or fuel rods. Where's it go if it's generated but not used? Or is it no such thing 'cause it's only generated on demand? Must be that.

Man, I'm really in the dark when it comes to this stuff. yuck, yuck.

Ish has, or had, a big ass Jeep with seat warmers. Maybe he could crank those babies up, insulate the Jeep real good and we'll boil some water with it out here. Gray Davis'll pay him real good.
