Bill,

Thanks for your astute and thought provoking comments.

Your insights give a much needed new perspective (to me, at least) on what is going on in advertising.

I think part of the problem is that the technology is less than perfect.

Last time i did a traceroute to techstocks.com it took 17 hops between Nevada City California and GNET.

That is 17 possible routers that could be down everytime i download a fresh page.

So if you have a third party reporting system.... And everytime somebody makes a click or makes a transaction,,, It seems to me there is a fair chance those packets can be lost in cyberspace due to a router that is on 'time-out' ...waiting for a collision domain to work itself out...or whatever.

On the one hand the technology is amazing and the amount of things that could go wrong.... generally don't go wrong. and that is incredible to me. ... but by the same token. if one router goes down or is on time-out.....then it can clog up a bunch of stuff..... It amazes me when people always blame the site for being up or down and it may not even really be their fault..... It may be some stinkin' router in between.....

that's why i'm totally amazed by what is going to happen when this IPv.6 stuff comes around. .... When *everybody* (the way i understand it) is going to have a dynamic IP address and even your printer and your peripherals will have a dynamically assigned IP address...and somehow the software will keep track of all of that....that stuff to me is kind of mindboggling....
