L, I think Dr. J would rather have been proven wrong on this one....I've no doubt he was sincere when he made the comments about the "sooner the better" with respect to operators launching W-CDMA services. One potential silver lining to the apparent fact that GPRS won't be able to deliver anywhere near the speeds that were initially claimed, is that operators may be forced to step-up their plans to launch W-CDMA services sooner then they would've liked. Doubt too many of their customers are going to pay a nice premium over and above current rates for the ability to receive "always on" capability that delivers somewhat faster SMS and downloading over the net that can be retrieved later. Also penetration rates are starting to max out in much of Europe - Operators showed good subscriber growth late last year but much of this was for pre-paid subscriptions. I do believe a real "Doomsday Scenario" could materialize as operators struggle with how to pay for the spectrum they paid outrageous sums for. It's a real problem that offering GPRS for the next several years won't cure!.
