Economic signals are very mixed. I see the lower earnings and earnings forecasts. I hear about layoffs and hiring freezes, but I expect the reports may be overblown. Unemployment didn't increase as much as I expected in the last report. December sales weren't off as much as expected. Unemployment in the East Bay (East side of San Francisco Bay, North-East of Silicon Valley) dropped from 2.5% in November to 2.2% in December. Electricity demand is rising, traffic is worse, the lines at the movie theater are twice as long, and I can't find a parking spot anywhere.
