The transaction includes 64 orders (35 firm orders and 29 conditional orders) plus 64 options. Value of the 64 orders is estimated at approximately U.S.$1.43 billion (Cdn.$2 billion). Including today's order, SkyWest has total commitments for 248 CRJ200 aircraft comprised of 100 firm orders, 29 conditional orders and 119 options. Fifteen of the firm aircraft are delivered and in revenue service. The 29 conditional orders are subject to an extension of the current SkyWest and United operational agreement and are expected to be firmed up in 2002. Deliveries for the new orders (firms and conditionals) will begin in March 2002 and continue through December of 2004. "The aircraft covered in today's announcement will provide SkyWest with the ability to expand our planned United Express operations," said Jerry Atkin, chairman, president and chief executive officer for SkyWest Airlines. "With the CRJ regional jet as the core of our fleet, we are able to realize significant savings in flight and maintenance training, spare parts provisioning and economy of operation," he said. "We are extremely pleased that United and its regional affiliate SkyWest have again selected the CRJ as the regional airliner of choice in their operations," said Michael Graff, president and chief operating officer, Bombardier Aerospace. "We are gratified to have made a contribution to their success and service excellence and that they are great contributors to the strength of our CRJ program," he said. "We are clearly delighted to be SkyWest's partner in their dynamic growth," said Steven A. Ridolfi, president, Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft. "In the earliest days of the CRJ program, SkyWest had the vision and understanding to commit to the regional jet concept. We are proud that SkyWest's confidence in Bombardier and our products has endured and grown since those early days," he said. SkyWest became the third regional air carrier to introduce the CRJ in United Express service when it launched service from United's Denver hub in October 2000. The airline is also the third United Express carrier to re-order the CRJ, clearly positioning the aircraft as the regional jet of choice in the United Express system. Under terms of the contract, SkyWest has the flexibility to operate a mix of 40-, 44- and 50-passenger CRJ200 models in its fleet to tailor seating capacity to specific route requirements. SkyWest's current order brings Bombardier's firm orderbook for the CRJ100/200 to 798 aircraft, 460 delivered and a backlog of 338. Options and conditional orders for the 50-seat model CRJ100/200 represent another 615 aircraft, for an overall total of 1,413 units.
