I don't want to see anyone blurring the line.

I think God in personal decisions is fine- but don't invoke your GOD when you represent a nation who believe in MANY Gods. It is wrong.

I don't know very much about Senator Liberman although I recall the quote that you mention. As far as I know, Senator Liberman has been able to keep his religious beliefs separate from his job. I've not heard major complaints about him, but I have heard serious complaints about Ashcroft.

The problem is that very few Americans realize what is going on:

A Time/CNN poll found that although most Americans were unfamiliar with
Ashcroft, 61 percent thought the Senate should look carefully at his stance on
affirmative action, 53 percent on his position on abortion and 58 percent on
his opposition to an African-American nominee for a federal judgeship.
