Dave, it depends on what it is you are doing with these improvements. For the most part, improvements to one's primary residence are meaningless tax-wise, since the 1997 tax act eliminated taxes on the gain in one's home for most people.

If you mean office in the home, that's another story, and depreciation is so minuscule as to not make it worth while for many people to bother with. but you MAY depreciate them if you'd like to...
