<<I was just doing some investigation online into pellet stove inserts. >>

If you have a fireplace there are some real efficient inserts. I have a friend who used a potbellied stove, freestanding. Put it in his basement and heated the house.

<<Anyway, I know line loss must be a problem. That's why I'm curious about how importing and exporting power is done efficiently. Nihil seems to be implying that transmission isn't a big deal. But, as you can tell, I'm in the dark.>>

Nihil knows all and tells all. I'm just going by what an electrical engineer who used to design transmission line told me.

<<As for the overloading, you'd think some kind of fail safe controls would be in place to at least just do the minimum amount of blackouts in order to keep the rest of the system working rather than a system wide crash. >>

System design. Intended to pick up slack and prevent brownouts that blow appliances like popping popcorn.
