More great news. From reading the Chinese news myself.

Korea's MII is planning to lower its wireless internet rate plan to stimulate Korea's economy and paves the way for IS-95C (CDMA) service. MII plans to meet with 5 service providers about this decision. MII plans to announce around March. The new plan can be implemented within 6 months.

The rate plan is determined by how many "times" instead of "minutes" a user connecting to wireless internet service. It is designed to fit IS-95C service.

Brian,

"I have a dream" but this is too good to be true. A few of us were just discussing what was happening to that Oct SK launch with the 20,000 handsets.

Feb is next month. This raises a ton of questions (in no particular order):

1) who is (are) making those handsets? what chipsets are inside? I guess KT may be using something different from SK and LG due to the HDR flavor?

2) earnings this quarter should be in the bag with the basestations?

3) what software upgrade is LG using that bypasses hardware?

4) why aren't we aware of all these basestations that are being installed?

5) could China be very close to doing same?

6) by the time VZ and PCS launch 1X in the US during the second half of this year, there should be a bunch of battle proven samsung, LG or whoever 1X handsets on the market. GPRS or EDGE anyone?

Where is the link, I like to read the article too.

Ramsey

"Korea Telecom (KT) Freetel, a subsidiary of state-run telecom giant Korea Telecom, also will launch IS-95C service by late February.

It will use Qualcomm's high data rate (HDR) technology, which sends data to Internet networks bypassing ground stations and switching boards. The technology raises data transmission speed to as high as 2.4 Mbps, the company said."

Suspect there's time confusion here. HDR must arrive later than Feb - min. 1 yr. from standardization - Q4 2001 earliest?? Perhaps field trials February...

Also, I believe all 3 Operators plan HDR....
