Check out this site for more information on what's happening with coal gasification and so called 'clean coal technologies' (CCT). Also, the Gasification Technologies Council site listed here is very helpful.

I do know of one very major long term (not coal) but shale oil to oil project run by Central Pacific Minerals and also Southern Pacific Minerals in Queensland, Australia. This project is currently running field trials on large scale trial plant. Both co's NASDAQ listed.

Applogies for not responding earlier but had some serious software problems. On a market trading level sold out of TXLI due to takeover and bought PKD at 5 1/8 two weeks ago. Suspect that PKD may do very well on a short term basis. Considering that the demand for drilling rigs and equipment is running strong it makes sense to think that predators are looking to buy up rigs rather than build. We may get a pop up to around $8 (hoping).

I would consider the E&P stocks to be a little soft here as profit taking comes in the face of softer energy prices or anticipation thereof.

On a personal note, have just started consulting assignment for a very small Australia E&P stock called First Australian Resources. Listed in Australia as "FAR" have ADR's and an office in Denver which manages a collection of U.S. projects they bought into in LA & TX when gas prices were very low. FAR is an international E&P with properties in PNG with Santos and North West Shelf of W.A. with Apache Oil. There market cap is a tiny US$9M of which cash is US$1M and revenues are currently US$3/4M per quarter and growing. They have interests in appox. 12 wells planned in L.A. and Apache is looking to drill prospective targets offshore W.A.

Apache owns Legendre (now producing) with Woodside (44M bls) where seismic indicates the field extends into FAR permit. Apache drilled with FAR, Sage#1 in '99 which came up with several thousand barrels per day, which at this stage may have a step out drilled in the future (was considered by Apache to be uneconomic at US$16 per barrel in '99). They are looking at drilling adjoining prospects on FAR permits. PNG is elephant country where FAR has an interest in two large permits with Santos on very prospective ground (on strike to twelve discoveries of 1.3B barrels and trillions of CF of gas)

I do not know of any extremely well run mini-micro E&P's with international permits. This one IMHO has the potential (very speculative) to hit a series of home runs relative to its current market cap. For those with an interest please visit aircommunications.net Please note that I have a financial interest here and we are looking for investors with sufficient risk tolerance to buy into the Australian shares and a multi-well drilling program over the next twelve months as a spring board to a U.S. listing of the ADR's. Currently 12(g) exempt and blue skyed as a sponsored Level 1 ADR (HSBC BANK).
