My compassion is not the same as your compassion. It is silly of you to think it would be. Your pain upon reading something you were probably alerted to by someone who wanted to play some sort of twisted game is hardly the kind of pain I really care about. It is the kind of self conscious, maudlin, self important pain that I think very low class. It is the kind of pain that says (very very loudly) Oh I am SO SO SO sad, and cries public tears- the kind of pain that vanishes when there is not an audience to behold it. I am always annoyed by variances from the truth as I see it. Now my truth may not be your truth- but it is mine and it is important to me. The canonization of Edwarda is at variance with my concept of the way things "should" be (again, should for me, not should in the Carolyn F: everyone "should" goose step to MY world view "should"). My annoyance with said canonization seems only to hurt people who basically annoy or disgust me anyway- so it is hard for me to care. I wouldn't physically hurt these annoying and disgusting people- but to change my ideas and communication because of them is expecting a bit much- and it is most probably more than you or your "friends" would do were the shoe on the other foot. We shall see- maybe someone I really like on SI that you don't will be run over by a truck- and we can test my theory- until then, you'll just have to sign me, Unimpressed And what exactly does No GLOVES mean to you? No gloves except for when I really really want gloves on?
