That last statement of yours is kind of an oxymoron... Geez Gustave.. take it easy on the guy (Q is a guy, right?) I think what he was trying to say is that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed in a free country. What they do with that opportunity is their responsibility. You just can't "make something out of your life" AGAINST a hostile community. Sure you can... people have to deal with hostile office politics, naysayers, and outright opposition each and every day of their lives. Some of it is on a macro-scale, and some of it is on a micro-scale. Heck, many of us have to deal with such a hostile environment as a result of growing up in dysfunctional families. Endless days where young impressionable children are constantly told they'll never amount to anything by parents who are afraid to let their children surpass their own accomplishments. I know a few people like this and they aren't categorized by color. As for your remarks on Colin Powell: He had first to graduate in a military academy, that is to say he first needed to be ALLOWED IN a US military DESPITE his Negro background The US military was on the frontlines (pardon the pun) of integration long before the rest of society was.
