Wayne, I think so. When all ships decline with the ebb tide, I try to locate and grab the sportiest looking yacht. <g> The value stocks tend not to go up that high or down that far, so they are great long term holdings, but not the best place to play either panic or exuberance.

I think maybe I should start focusing more attention on trades like this. Even if the types of companies that I would like to take long term positions aren't available, there appears to be a very good trading opportunities among companies that aren't too bad.

Wayne, I agree with you re tax loss selling. At the end of December next year I'm going do exactly that. I had several in my portfolio that bounced like madmen after being sold off nearly to extinction to the end of the year.

In a stock "game" here at work I picked 5 stocks that I felt were "oversold due to tax loss selling." At the end of last week the 5 stocks were up an average of over 40% since year end. There's definitely some money to be made from the inefficiency created by the tax loss selling and I'm going to be sure I play the game with real money the next this happens. All we need to do is make sure we have a) some dry powder, and b) a market crash at the end of next year to create another opportunity. <g>

If I remember you were in WCOM weren't you? That's one that's bounced due to the very effect you mention IMHO.
