Today's anecdote:

My wife went to her office today, even though she was supposed to have a holiday, to finish some critical work. Near the end of the day she needed to print out the document she had just spent all day preparing, but found to her chagrin that Office refused to print it. Tech support where she works was closed for the holiday. Luckily she was able to save the file to a floppy disk and bring it home. I have an old version of Microsoft Word, but it wouldn't read the file, which was created by a recent version of Office. I also have IBM's WordPro from a more recent (although perhaps not current) version of their office suite -- it also failed.

StarOffice was the only thing that would read the file correctly.

True story.
