Wow, bland ... I'm sorry to hear this re your career.

You could have told him you wanted to pursue YOUR interests, not his ... I know how hard that might have been, though .... perhaps easier said than done, particularly with hindsight.

My father pushed me HARD to 'get into' accounting and finance ... and I told him to go to hell.

Words didn't do the trick, so I had to 'prove it to him' by dropping out of Acct 100 and Fin 100 pursuing Bachelor's.

I said, "To hell with your ideas of what I 'should' like." I liked journalism at the time ... still do. LOL.

He readily came around 15 years later when I got my first (good) job that exceeded his salary after 30 years as a 'company' accounting man. It really sort of depressed me that at age 32, I made more than my Dad who was 62 at the time.

He just wanted to advise me on how to make a decent living lifelong, of course. And he also encouraged me to 'go for it,' in whatever I chose as a profession.

In fact, he 'raised me like a son,' which is a humorous aspect to me of how offensive both alleged men and women (grown-ups, adults, I mean) find me on these investing message boards.

I don't seem to quite 'fit in' anywhere ... except on these new, wonderful 'liberal' SI venues ... LOL.

Thanks, Poet, once again, for providing these threads!
