Bland was not attempting to connect Dawkins with anything.

Bland was simply attempting to explain a response that Dawkins himself evidently doesn't understand:

"Society bends over backward to be accommodating to religious
sensibilities but not to other kinds of sensibilities," says Richard Dawkins,
an evolutionary biologist and outspoken atheist. "If I say something
offensive to religious people, I'll be universally censured, including by
many atheists..."

And bland was not attempting to defend religious beliefs versus political beliefs, or any other type of belief. He was merely trying to point out what is different about religious belief versus political belief.

Biologically speaking, he is sure they make their home in rather subtly different parts of the brain, with a rather different set of interconnections.
