Drilling - going down deep.

Mark, good field comments & definitely goofy weather. One week it's something like 10c to 15c below normal and then shortly later warm weather records are being set by same+ extreme.

Another issue re: drilling/tie-ins may be the labour pool that's attached to many of the service rigs. Before Christmas a conversation with an industry insider indicated that the inexperience on some of the rigs was starting to show up in Workers' Compensation claims. I haven't verified however stat. being tossed at me was that injury/time loss claims were up something like 50% on a year-over-year basis. I'm not sure how much of the increase is related to more activity however the thought was that the whole issue was definately a current topic that would need to be addressed by drillers/servicers alike.

It will be interesting to see what sort of finds happen over the next while and how they translate into production/storage down the road.

The going deep comment - noticed a new well licenced Monday Jan. 15 that would seem to say that somebody (Canadian Forest part of FST-nyse Forest Oil) is planning on spending a few dollars doing some drilling -- new pool wildcat 5,240 metres into the Montney formation which appears to be in the Rambling Creek area (Range 5, TWP 90 west of 6th Meridian) about 150 km north of Grand Prairie.

Mark, excellent comment on the weather. In fact, I believe that BXL's program is moving now but was delayed by the weather. Don't know if you have insight into those companies with predominantly northern programs, my understanding is that they are not suffering from the weather difficulties (?).

Thanks for mentioning CEO, I hadn't looked at it since their test well in Charmelet was abandoned but it looks like they've had some success in Balsam.

Re NG storage - I believe summer is also a relatively heavy use period for those utilities that use NG. I don't think storage concerns will go away, however some panic may be priced in natural gas right now. Perhaps there'll be more panic by next fall - g.

Regards, t.
