I admire your ability to refrain from buying GMST.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I bought it in December, 1998.

Your example of Microsoft controlling the architecture at will is a great one. But it's a standard that I'm not sure any company has or ever will live up to. There's even reason to believe that their control was not exercised entirely through legal means. So, if I were to invest only in companies that have power that is comparable to Softie's past powers, I don't know that I'd be able to invest in common stocks.
