Don't get me wrong, mr. mark. I have hard-copied all the posts to me, and I have no doubt but that in the aggregate they just about describe the state-of-the-art on this subject. I can't believe how so many people have gone to so much trouble to enlighten me, and I am truly grateful to you all. I can't imagine where else on the web you could get this much instant help. At the same time (and having nothing to do with this great thread!), I do think this discussion illustrates the nagging gap between techies and the rest of humanity. My "problem" ought, by this time, not to be any problem at all. Here we have the PC industry concerned with lagging sales, pondering how to motivate PC users to to upgrade their systems. Doesn't it seem as if one of the most basic thoughts should be, "Hey, here's an idea -- lets be sure we make it easy and seamless for a PC owner to buy a better unit and move all their stuff from the old one to the new one!" Now given the brain-power in the industry, it just doesn't seem to me that this would be a rocket-science kind of challenge. I get a similar feeling whenever my computer throws up (good word choice) some ominous message such as, "YOU HAVE PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION!!!! YOUR PROGRAM IS BEING SHUT DOWN!!! Followed, of course, by jerking me back to the desk-top. Hey, I just hit the wrong key, I didn't perform an abortion with a pen-knife. Who writes this kind of stuff??? What kind of way is this to make people feel good about using your product? Just venting! But I do feel that my original question should have had--long before now--an easier and cleaner solution from the PC industry. Best regards, J.C.
