I'm trying to figger out why drawing outside air to your fireplace would help humidity and the only thing I can come up with is that since the fire is combusting inside air and sending up the chimney then it's being replace by dry, cold outside air. I suspect maybe I'm missing somethin' and am looking forward to gettin' ejucated.

just knock out a block and put a louvered vent in...

childs play....

now go find a child and get him to do it.....

in my place, the outdoor humidity is higher than indoor when the temperature is really cold.

Outside air will make a difference.

you can also try tossing water balloons in some of the rooms....this adds humidity really fast.
