I don't know about sainthood. I just aim to be a little more tolerant and understanding. I'm inclined to be less confrontational in public because experience has taught me you rarely know where people are coming from. But most people, while mindless when they are doing their thing, aren't carrying a chip. Plausible deniability is what you are using moving your cart. "Oh, (I didn't know you were being a rude jerk and carelessly ignoring my situation,) I thought (you were an idiot, and will pretend) you made a harmless mistake I'm intending to correct." You don't say the part in the parentheses, of course.

People have complex reasons for acting the way they do. I see this with particular drivers. Some cultures discourage face to face contact with others in crowds. This is more common in places where there are a lot of people and everyone must live crammed together.

This behavior affects the way they drive adversely. If you don't spend time pivoting your head around (an act that is perceived as rude) you are likely to have problems in traffic. This "politeness" is just ill advised when driving. I've had people change lanes and nearly run me off the road and still not break from their straight-ahead gaze even after I beeped at them, lest they make accidental and undesired eye-contact.
