John, to put my 2 cents in about the Transmeta servers,

1. The companies coming out with them wouldn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of Dell, IBM, Compaq or HP:

RLX Technologies, Amphus, FiberCycle Networks, and Rebel.com.

2. They make a big deal about power, but people like Compaq have demoed 32 high servers in one rack, holding 64 CPUs total, and the power/heat dissipation is taken care of. That's pretty modular, if you ask me, since each server is only 1.75 (1 U) inches high.

3. Who's to say the big OEMs aren't looking into even more modular servers, e.g., a card type for CPU and memory; a card type for basic I/O, a card type for router function, etc.?

I think you'll find that the big OEMs are doing market research on what us needed and will be there with the right products, based on Intel processors.

Tony

John, whatever the results tonight, INTC could move to 35, and higher!

John - Re: "This time it feels like being in the dentist's reception room, waiting for your appointment..."

Aptly stated.
