Something I don't understand is "Why Make This Announcement Today?" This was unexpected at this time, since Loral could have had more of Globalstar's cash by waiting till after the next payment in February for the announcement. I have a sneaking suspicion BS is timing this with some upcoming favorable announcement that might serve to entice bondholders to wait rather than force BK. I'm also thinking [and hoping] pcstel was right all along, and that the bondholders may come to understand that the assets of a bankrupt G* aren't worth much.

Just got off the phone with Mila Fairfax from G* IR. She was returning a call of mine made late December wherein I indicated I had suggestions for a Verizon G* phone service plan that would take some of the sting out of using the phone. According to her, they had no idea about the call forwarding surcharge Verizon extracts. Said she'd follow up.

Discussion naturally turned to this morning's announcement. One thing of note she said was that BLS, IJ and Chris Gent met for several days last week in Paris. No indication what was discussed or results.

If I had to guess, there was an attempt by BLS to get Q* and VOD to kick in, and they turned him down. Best he could get was an indication from Q* to "take a charge" and let situation ride for short term. Not sure he got anything from Gent, though I suppose the fact that they haven't yet put posters in the Verizon store windows advertising G*'s impending demise as another reason to "buy cellular" is some consolation... NOT.

How Gent got out of that room in one piece is beyond me. Guess BLS and IJ are too old to invoke a little "self help" extra curricular action. Too bad, as Gent deserves to be flogged. I'll bet Gregg would like to get him alone for a couple of days. So would I, actually. Hoping Sprint kicks Verizon's ass big time.
