having a status page would be admitting there is a problem.

I think that users prefer it when you are honest and admit that there was a problem instead of trying to say "Problem? No problem here". RJT.COM for example has a status page showing any downtime they had in the recent past. I wish all brokers did that. Would save the users a lot of time messing with their browser settings, etc. and shows that the site has integrity. SI has been very good about that, even without a formal status page, though it would be nice.
