Not to beat the dead horse and drag it around the corral, but the official release on Reuters last night might be the iciing on the cake.

Vanguard, SST form strategic alliance
January 16, 2001 9:17:00 PM ET

TAIPEI, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Taiwan microchip maker Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp said on Wednesday it had formed a strategic alliance with U.S.-based Silicon Storage Technology (SSTI), becoming a major contract partner producing SST's 0.18-micron flash memory chips.

Vanguard said trial production would begin in the fourth quarter this year and volume production would start in 2002.

Meanwhile, the two firms would jointly develop advanced 0.13-micron technology, Vanguard said.

"This cooperation combines advantages of product and technology, which will bring a substantial effect for both companies," Vanguard President Paul Chien said in a statement. At 0156 GMT Vanguard shares were unchanged at T$18.90. (US$1=T$33)
