Coby:

Not to beat up on the point, but:

-While there are plenty of folks who do not own telephones, those that can afford them already own many of them. Your stats are a red herring.

- Sat systems are not the "low cost provider" systems.

- How many forms of communications do we need? Start adding them all up and it is insane.

- One of my favourite GPS manufacturers puts out a small box that provides GPS plus sat-based email. Cost is peanuts, yet the company couldn't sell enough of them to make it profitable. I canvassed many of my friends who travel up into the "North Country" and NONE of them owns a sat phone,..... too cumbersome compared with radio systems already in place, etc. If these guys don't or won't buy them,......... then who the heck will?

You should hear what knowledgeable folks are saying about Telesat. (g)

I am a radio amateur operator and I love all things electronic, but we are talking about whether a company can make profits or not. Too many companies have dazzling ideas that soak up so much money to put in place that there is not a hope that they can recoup the original investment, never mind make any profits. Sat phones, fall into that category for me, that is until I see a bunch of real people who need or want the service.

Best, Earlie
