I didn't mean to imply that the Iridium contract wasn't with the DOD - but the encryption element made me surmise that the primary goal was black ops type communication - spook stuff. I guess plain vanilla national defense needs encryption, too.

Maybe I just hate to give up on a pet theory of mine. I kind of figured, after Motorola kept Iridium going for such a long time, that there was a user somewhere but the user was keeping a low profile, so that said spook to me.
