We all better hope all report well and give positive guidance. NT can get creamed on the real or imagiined telecom slowdown - more than CSCO. >> Cisco facing shipping delays on key product - report January 16, 2001 1:28:00 PM ET Reuters Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) may be taking as much as 12 weeks to fill customer orders for a key networking switch product that accounts for about $5 billion in sales, according to an article in an industry publication. Network World reported in its online edition on Monday that shipment times for Cisco's Catalyst 6000 switch have increased to three months from three weeks due to a shortage of components from the networking giant's key suppliers, most notably International Business Machines Corp. (IBM). The publication quoted corporate customers of Cisco, who make up the main buyers of the Catalyst switch, which is used to direct traffic on small corporate networks and accounts for about one-sixth of Cisco's total revenues. Cisco has not lost customer orders as a result of the delays, the publication quoted a Cisco executive as saying. Cisco and IBM could not be reached for immediate comment. In recent months, Cisco said it has been squeezed by components shortages, but also that it had made moves last month to stockpile components in order to alleviate potential delays. Cisco shares were down 3/16 to $37-7/8 on early afternoon volume of more than 28 million shares. Cisco's stock has fallen more than 40 percent in the last three months, on fears that it will report weak profits due to a slowdown in spending by telecommunication service providers. Chief Executive John Chambers said last week that its current fiscal quarter has been "a little bit more challenging" than expected. The Catalyst 6000 competes with products from Foundry Networks Inc. (FDRY), Extreme Networks Inc. (EXTR), and Nortel Networks Corp. (NT). << - Eric -
