Murali, I went to the hunger site and observed that most of the deaths from hunger happen in India. If this is true what is the reason(s) in your opinion? I am truly curious not confrontive. I know there is poverty and a huge population.
What advantages does China have over India in regards to this issue?

India is self sufficient in it's food production and should be able to feed it's population of Billion plus. However, the deaths related to hunger could be attributed to various other factors. Extensive distribution network is needed to provide food at subsidized rates (in some cases for free) to hungry/poverty-stricken people. Now when the food is subsidized, it is bound to invite criminal and corrupt elements who take the food to sell it in open market at higher price, thereby depriving the needy of food.
My guess is prior to hunger the people suffer from extended periods of mal nutrition and poor health. Then suddenly one calamity like floods, cyclone or famine or earthquake is enough to cause widespread hunger and death in densely populated areas. India's primary problem is its huge population. There are non profit (and non motive) agencies started by Indian students in some universities whose member volunteers to go to remote areas to alleviate such situations.

Besides population and corruption, Social, economic factors and general apathy play a huge role too.

I have not examined how China handles it's hunger issues to be able to comment about it. I guess, China has proportionately more resources and more food production than India and draconian laws to prevent crime and corruption (they may be corrupt in other areas but probably not in Public Distribution System of food)
