Since liberals want higher taxes and generally speaking conservatives don't, liberals should volunteer to pay more of their income in taxes and allow the conservatives and others to pay less. JMHO, of course.

As long as churches are using government services (fire, police, etc.) they are functional "citizens" and should be incorporated just like companies AND should use GAAP. I don't like taxes particularly, but neither do I like money making organization funding tax-exempt dog houses ala Jim and Tammy Fae when the line is being drawn by the government. My church (that of the Cosmic Indulgence) should be exempt too, then.

Until that blissful time when none of us pay taxes because the ethic of the wealthy is to reduce the disparity between rich and poor (can you say "when hell freezes over?"), I say all of us should pay taxes. Flat rate is okay with personal exemptions to make it less regressive. The tax code is so complex as to be a burden IMO.
